INTAKE 35 MBBS VC’S MESS NIGHT
June 20, 2024, evening marked a significant event in the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) calendar. The Cadets’ Mess thrived with excitement as 85 participants, including 39 Officer Cadets and other invitees, gathered to celebrate the successful completion of seven year of cadet training period and two-month period of advanced military training. The occasion was none other than the “Intake 35 MBBS VC’s Mess Night, ” and the Vice Chancellor of KDU, Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS) graced the event as the Chief Guest. In addition to Vice Chancellor, the event was graced by other distinguished guests, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration), all Rectors, the Deputy Deans of the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies (FDSS), and the Faculty of Medicine (FOM), as well as the Adjutant, Squadron Commanders, and Troop Commanders.
The Mess Night of Intake 35 was replete with military decorum and featured a five-course menu, reflecting the adherence to long-preserved customs and traditions in the military. The evening included musical accompaniment followed by a loyal toast. A total of three customary toasts were offered to the HE, the President, a toast for intake 35 by KDU Staff and a toast for KDU staff by the Officer Cadets of intake 35. This event provided a remarkable opportunity for the Officer Cadets of Intake 35 to learn about traditional military customs and values related to Mess Nights. The Mess Night was organized under the guidance and supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, the Squadron Commander of Intake 35, and the Troop Commanders.
As these Officer Cadets continue their journey at KDU, they carry with them the invaluable lessons and experiences gained during their advanced military training. The “Intake 35 MBBS VC’s Mess Night” was not just a celebration; it was a reminder of the bright future that awaits these young leaders in the military and healthcare fields.
