Kowul Wasanthaya 2025: A Colourful Fusion of Tradition and Togetherness at KDU Southern Campus

The Sinhala and Hindu New Year celebration of the Southern Campus of General Sir JohnKotelawala Defence University, titled “Kowul Wasantha 2025”, was successfully held on Wednesday, 30th of Bak month in the year 2025, within the campus premises.
The event was graced by the Rector Southern campus, Brigadier Enoj Herath, along with officers from the tri-services, academic and non-academic staff members, all cadet officers of the university, and civilian undergraduates, making Kowul Wasantha ’25 a vibrant and joyful occasion.
Following the traditional lighting of the oil lamp in accordance with age-old customs, various cultural and traditional rituals were conducted, including the symbolic lighting of the hearth at the village-themed setting. Competitions such as selecting the best village house among departments, traditional New Year dances, and New Year games were held throughout the day, with valuable prizes awarded to winners. Subsequently, the refreshments and lunch were distributed among all the attendees of the event.
In the evening, the celebrations culminated in a colourful musical performance featuring the Southern campus musical band in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment band.
Thus, Kowul Wasantha 2025 was held with great festivity and success at the Southern campus premises of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, with the participation of all sectors of the campus community.
