A webinar on “Digi World Gender Justice and Women and Girl Children: South Asian Criminal Justice System Perspective” was successfully conducted by the Faculty of Criminal Justice on the 15th of May, 2023, from 2.00 p.m. -3.00 p.m.

“The guest speaker, Professor Debarati Halder, Professor of Law at Parul University, Gujarat, India shared her expertise and experiences on various dimensions of the topic.

Following key points were discussed in the webinar.

• Overview of South Asian Criminal Justice System: The speakers provided an overview of the current state of the criminal justice system in South Asia and its implications for gender justice.
• Gender-Based Violence and Exploitation: The webinar delved into the prevalent forms of gender-based violence and exploitation faced by women and girl children in the region, including domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and child marriage.
• Role of Technology and Digital Platforms: The speakers highlighted the positive and negative impacts of technology on gender, exploring how digital platforms can be both a tool for empowerment and a means for perpetuating gender-based violence.
• Legal Framework and Policy Interventions: The webinar discussed existing legal frameworks and policy interventions aimed at protecting the rights of women and girl children in South Asia. The speakers emphasized the need for comprehensive legal reforms and effective implementation to ensure gender justice.
• Access to Justice and Support Services: The session focused on the importance of accessible and gender-sensitive justice systems, including providing support services such as counselling, legal aid, and rehabilitation for survivors.
• Role of Civil Society and Advocacy: The webinar highlighted the significant role played by civil society organizations and advocacy groups in promoting gender justice and working towards systemic change

The webinar focused on “The challenges faced by women and girl children within the South Asian criminal justice system and to explore potential avenues for gender justice in the digital era”. The potential avenues identified were knowledge sharing, raising awareness, and fostering discussion and also it highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts, policy interventions, and systemic changes to address the existing gaps and ensure the protection and empowerment of women and girl children in the region.
