Blood Centre, University Hospital, KDU and hospital staff jointly organized the Annual In-house Blood Donation program at the OPD premises UHKDU on 20/12/2022. Executive Director, Dr. B Jayan Mendis, Director Administration, Brigadier LWSR Wettasinghe, Consultant Transfusion Physician, Dr Trilicia Withanawasam and hospital staff participated for the opening ceremony.

Consultant Transfusion Physician emphasized on responsibilities a blood donor should bear to ensure safe blood supply as transfusion transmissible infections including HIV/AIDS is in increasing trend in the community. Infection rate is increasing among blood donors also. Voluntary donor must be self-deferred if there is a risk exposure and true information should be declared at the counseling. She further informed that donors who donate for the sake of testing should be identified as it?s a threat to the safe and quality blood supply. This year?s theme is ?Safe & Quality Blood Supply to patients admitting to UHKDU?.
