With the dawn of New Year 2023, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University officially commenced its new academic year ceremonially on 2nd January 2023 at the university premises. Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Vice Chancellor of KDU who attended the ceremonial function was presented a Tri-Services Guard Turnout at the entrance to the University.
The Vice Chancellor addressed Officer Cadets, Day Scholars and University Staff after hoisting the flags and taking the Government Service Oath. He remarked the importance of being positive and courageous at difficult times and commended everyone who contributed towards the excellent performance of the University in the year 2022.
The event concluded with the awarding of scholarships to the value of Rs. 876,000 sponsored by Sir John Kotelawala Memorial Fund to 41 students from the Piliyandala Sir John Kotelawala School, Kandawala Navodya School and children of KDU staff members who excelled at the Grade 5 Scholarship and the GCE- O/L examinations.
