The opening ceremony of the Centre for Media Studies (Media Lab) organized by the Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities (FMSH) was held in the morning hours of 26th of July 2023 at the 03rd floor of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS). The Centre located at the third floor of the KDU Faculty of Graduate Studies building was declared open by the Vice-Chancellor of KDU, Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc.

The occasion was graced by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Brigadier DCA Wickramasinghe USP USA CGSC, Deans of Faculties, Directors, Senior Professors, other Senior Academics, University administrators, and Senior Military Officers.

The Centre for Media Studies established under the Department of Social Sciences of FMSH cordially extends its accessibility to all students and academia of the University for their media-related activities.

The Centre includes a recording room, a visual studio, and a make-up room. It provides much needed space and facilities for in-house recording, interviews, discussions, dubbing and other media productions. These resources will be utilized to educate and give hands on experience for students in media production, video editing, dubbing etc. with the expectation that it will be a student-run media centre.

Students of the Department of Social Sciences demonstrated the recording room and the visual studio to the invited guests. The maiden interview was conducted with the Vice Chancellor to demonstrate facilities available at the Centre.

The establishment of the Centre for Media Studies is a part of a larger UNDP funded project on Non-violent Communication and Responsible use of Media conducted by the Department of Social Sciences to provide space for students of the Faculty to engage in media production. The Centre facilitates media research, video filming, voice covers, and podcast production to showcase the skills of KDU students, and it provides much needed space and facilities for recording interviews and other media productions that would facilitate the propagation of the University within and outside Sri Lanka.
