It is with great pleasure that we announce the achievements of our very own undergraduates at the Inter-Faculty Debating Championship for Vice Chancellor’s Trophy – 2023, where the faculty emerged as the first runners-up after an exuberant competition with the Faculty of Law.

The Grand Finale held on October 12 at the University’s main auditorium was graced by Brigadier DCA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Administration) of University and the Deans of two faculties Dr. ADAI Gunasekara and Mr. WS Wijesinghe (Faculty of Computing and Faculty of Law).

Exemplary luminaries of the country’s legal fraternity President’s Counsels (PCs) Tirantha Walaliyadde, Kalinga Indatissa, former President of Bar Association Sri Lanka and Anuja Premaratne graced the occasion as adjudicators of the event.

The debating team of the Faculty of Computing began its exciting journey in the competition with its victory over the Faculty of Criminal Justice in preliminary rounds and was able to secure their seats at the Grand Finale by defeating Faculty of Engineering in semi finals. Our team brought out a kaleidoscope of opinions, thoughts and perspective on particular topics that enhanced the knowledge and understanding of the fellow participants as well as listeners.

The faculty’s team comprised of undergraduates who represented intakes 38,39 and 40, namely Daham Yakandawala, Hasini Gunasekara, Sasith Bandara, Dasuni Uththara, Dinuka Wickramasinghe and Senuda Weliwatta, marking participation from both Ratmalana and Southern Campus. Faculty of Computing hereby extends the heartiest wishes and a sincere gratitude to all the participants who represented the faculty and Mrs. Dharani Abeysinghe, the lecturer in-charge of the debate team for their tireless commitment to secure this achievement by conquering all the challenges.
