Centre for Quality Assurance of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (CQA-KDU) replaces the Internal Quality Assurance Unit which has been functioning since 2015. The establishment of CQA-KDU is in accordance with the recommendations of the UGC Circular No. 09/2019 and will better reflect the university-wide remit of Quality Assurance.

The goal of the CQA is to promote a quality culture and quality assurance within the university in its education experiences, in governance and in total quality management.

Administratively, it functions as a part of the academic division of the university. The Management Committee (MC) of the IQAU has been converted to a Senate Standing Committee on Quality Assurance (SSC-QA) and have a composition similar to the composition of the MC of the IQAU with the addition of the VC as the Chair of the Committee.

The CQA-KDU is headed by a Director and functions under the guidance of the VC and the SSQ-QA
