Virtual meeting with the Department of Anatomy, University of Otago New Zealand

A virtual meeting was held on 24.08.2020 with the participation of the members of academic staff from the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, KDU and the Department of Anatomy, University of Otago, New Zealand to discuss the possibility of commencing a ‘Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy’ in KDU. Prof Thilak Weerasooriya, Prof Jayantha Ariyarathna and Dr Nishantha Kumarasinghe partake in the meeting from KDU, while Prof George Dias joined from the University of Otago.

Parties discussed in details about pre-requisites. The International Relations Office of KDU facilitated the meeting and assured its fullest support to both parties. During the meeting, Prof Thilak highlighted the importance of having all resources ready prior to the commencement of the program. Prof George mentioned that he will assist KDU to prepare necessary course material, provide know-how to prepare cadavers and volunteer as a resource person when he visits Sri Lanka after COVID restrictions. Both parties acknowledged the need to have such postgraduate programmes in KDU and agreed to meet again to discuss the progress.
