The Annual Inter-Faculty Athletic Meet of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University – 2023 was held at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakshe Stadium on 14th and 15th July 2023. The opening ceremony was graced and ceremonially declared open by Brigadier DCA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration) and President of the Sports Council of KDU. More than 250 athletes from ten Faculties of KDU and other universities participated in the event.

The Annual Inter Faculty Athletic Meet of KDU which was held after lapse of 3 years, was a breathtaking experience for undergraduates as they displayed a record-setting performances including new records from Day scholar N Wedagama in Javelin (Female) from Faculty of Law and Day Scholar IDSLD Gunawardane in Shotput (Female) from Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.

In the 4 x 100 m Invitation Relay event, SLIIT emerged winners of the men’s category while University of Colombo became winners of women’s category.

The closing ceremony of the Annual Inter-Faculty Athletic Meet-2023 was graced by Major General MP Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University as the Chief Guest. Major General ALDM Gunasekara RSP VSV USP psc, Rector Metropolitan Campus – KDU, Brigadier DCA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration) and President of the Sports Council of KDU, Deans of all the faculties, Directors, Senior Administrative Staff, Senior Lecturers, Officers, Officer Cadets and Day Scholars too participated in the closing ceremony.

In recognizing the outstanding individual and faculty performances of the KDU Inter Faculty Athletic Meet 2023, the following awards were presented by the Chief Guest.

  1. Best Faculty of Inter-Faculty Games – Faculty of Engineering
  2. Champions of the Athletics Meet – Faculty of Engineering
  3. Runner-up of the Athletics Meet – Faculty of Medicine
  4. Best Athlete (Men) – Officer Cadet PVK Imesh – Tripple Jump 13.73m (IAAF Points – 821)
  5. Best Athlete (Women) – Cadet Sgt TKAGW Chathurangi – Long Jump 05.36m (IAAF Points – 860)
