A delegation from the Institute of South Asian Studies, Sichuan University (ISAS) visited the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies on 12th July 2023 for an academic exchange. Associate Professors Mr. Zeng Xiangyu and Ms. Liu Siwei, and Lecturers Gao Liang and Ms. Chen Xixi, participated in the discussion along with six other postgraduate students. The Dean, Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies Colonel Pradeep Ratnayake RSP USP psc, welcomed the delegation. Dr. Sanath de Silva (HoD, Department of Strategic Studies), Lt Col Janaka Manikachchi (Research Coordinator), Major Asanka Egalla (Research Officer) and Mr. Pradeep Ranaweera participated in the event representing the KDU. Six postgraduate students of MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies from the KDU were also participated in this discussion.
During the discussion, they could table matters pertaining to the strategic atmosphere of South Asia and the Indian Ocean. The delegation showed their interest to do joint research and publications.
The Dean of FDSS stressed the need of having one to one experience and the possibility of facilitating the researchers from the Sichuan university at KDU in future. The final session of the discussion was an academic exchange where the students expressed their ideas on Sri Lankan security environment, China as an economic model and the foreign policy of Sri Lanka.
