The third lecture of the Short Course on “Cultural Linkages towards an Asian Ideology” for the academic year 2023/24 was presented by Professor MG Kularatne. His lecture, titled “The Impact of Globalization on Less Developed Countries (Special reference to Asia)” took place on October 12th, 2023 from 1500 to 1630 via Zoom.
Professor MG Kularatne is a senior lecturer at the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Kelaniya. His impressive academic credentials include a PhD in Environmental Economics from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia, an MSc in Socio-economic Information for Natural Resources Management from the International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC) in the Netherlands, and a BA with Honors in Economics from the University of Peradeniya
Professor Kularatne’s research work is mainly focused on efficiency and productivity analyses of the use of natural resources, development issues, education, and solid waste management. In addition to being an academic at the University of Kelaniya he also works as a Research Supervisor, University Representative, Economist, Social Development Expert and Social Impact Assessment Consultant in many important national and international projects.
The course is organized for the fourth consecutive year by the Department of Social Sciences, FMSH under a generous research grant awarded by the Eurasia Foundation (from Asia) in Japan. This course is scheduled to run from October 2023 to March 2024, catering to a select group of undergraduate students in intake 40, representing diverse faculties within KDU.
