An awareness program on library book preservation methods was organized by the KDU Library with the Staff Development Center KDU, on 09th November, 2023. The program aimed to create an awareness among the library staff on how to identify the infestation and deterioration and necessary precautions to be taken to safeguard the library collections.
Dr. Udaya Cabral, Head of the Conservation and Preservation Division at the National Library of Sri Lanka, conducted the programme as the resource person, and he covered topics of identifying infestation, human activities and environmental issues, insect types in typical climate, damages types caused by them, preventive measures to ensure the longevity of library materials etc. A discussion was also held relating to the status of the available donations and of the NDRCDS project documents. Dr. Cabral also highlighted the potential of submitting the NDRCDS project implemented by the KDU as a project for the UNESCO World Heritage Initiative for 2025.
