GOAL 5

Gender Equality

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Equal opportunity for enrollment in KDU degree programs

Application for KDU degree programs is done through an online platform. Therefore, provided that minimum eligibility criteria are met, anyone is able to apply without discrimination, and the application sorting and calling for aptitude tests and interviews are all done using the automatically generated ‘call-up numbers'; hence, there is no room for discrimination based on gender, race, or creed. In addition, the ‘call-up numbers’ mechanism ensures full anonymity and objective evaluation. Applications are sorted algorithmically, focusing on grading scores and specific academic requirements rather than personal preferences. This process facilitates unbiased admission, encouraging diversity and equal opportunities within the university environment. Ultimately, KDU is committed to promoting an inclusive and equitable education platform by eliminating any form of discrimination during the admissions process. [ More details ]

Mentoring and Counselling

All academic staff members at KDU serve as mentors for students. Additionally, KDU maintains a helpdesk which is accessible via phone for all students. The helpdesk consists of trained counselors. counselling hours are distributed and displayed on notice boards every month. These programmes are open to all students, regardless of religion, race, color, age, disability, nationality, marital status, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Maternity Leave

KDU places a high regard on the diversity of its female workforce and strives to empower, and retain them. Recognizing the complications associated with motherhood, KDU ensures that its female academic and administrative staff are consistently supported during their maternity leave. KDU guarantees equitable and consistent treatment for all full-time expectant female employees and facilitates their reintegration into the workforce following childbirth, enabling them to pursue their preferred professional paths while enabling the University to retain skilled and knowledgeable staff.  In accordance with a government circular, permanent female staff are eligible for maternity benefits.

Accommodation facilities for female students

All female cadet officers receive free accommodation throughout their time at KDU. Female dayscholars and international students are also given accommodation in nearby dormitories maintained by KDU. These dormitories are well-equipped, providing a comfortable and conducive environment for students to live and study. The rooms are fully furnished, with clean and modern en-suite facilities. Common areas, like lounges and study rooms, are designed for collaboration and community. Security is a key feature, as they are continually monitored to ensure students’ safety.

Women in subjects where they are underrepresented

In all the degree programs offered, the participation of females is almost equal. KDU does not discriminate against applications based on their gender. KDU is proud that even in disciplines such as engineering and quantity surveying, the number of female students is similar to the number of male students. This reflects our steadfast commitment to gender equality and our belief that all students should have the opportunity to pursue their academic passions unhindered by stereotypes or societal expectations.

Advancement of Women and Gender Equality

KDU endeavors to increase the percentage of women in all organizational units, on all hierarchical levels, and in all functions and activities at the university. To achieve this, we have formulated policies encouraging the inclusion of women in leadership roles and the expansion of female representation within the faculty and administrative posts. Through gender equality training, mentorship programs, and robust recruitment strategies, we aim to cultivate an empowering workspace where women's talents and innovations are valued. Furthermore, we are committed to fostering a supportive, respectful environment that upholds equal opportunities for all. By advocating for women's active participation and development in every domain, KDU strives to not only improve the university's dynamic but also impact societal norms and perceptions positively.
