English, Research Methodology and GIS Pre-Sessional Course 2024 for DSCSC and Lsc Student Officers
The Department of Languages, Department of Strategic Studies and Department of Spatial Sciences conducted the Pre-Sessional English Language, Research Methodology and GIS Programme for DSCSC (Course No. 19) and LSC (Course No.11) from 09th October 2024 to 30th November 2024 at KDU. The Programme consisted of English for Academic Purposes and a series of lectures on research methodology and GIS package to enhance the military officers’ knowledge and skills required to continue reading their Master’s degree. Considering the nature of study and the academic and professional challenges that the military officers face, it has become evident that enhancing their English language, research skills and GIS knowledge prior to commencing their Master’s degree is paramount.
166 military student officers received certificates in successful completion of the programme at the closing ceremony held on the 02nd December at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara the Vice Chancellor, graced the event as the Chief Guest and addressed the student officers who succeeded in the programme, Major General Chinthaka Wickramasignha, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Administration), Prof. KAS Dhammika, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Colonel Ramindu Hasantha, Dean of the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, Dr. Lakshika Liyanage, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences & Humanities, Dr AH Lakmal, Dean of the Faculty of Build Environment and Spatial Sciences, Dr. MTN Wijetunge, Head of Department of Languages, Dr. Sanath De Silva, Head of Department of Strategic Studies, Lt Col Janaka Manikachchi, course coordinators, lecturers of the Department of Languages and the Department of Strategic Studies as well as the directing staff of DSCSC and LSC were among the distinguished guests.
