The inaugural lecture of the Short Course on “Cultural Linkages towards an Asian Ideology” for the academic year 2023/24 was presented by Mr. Kithsiri Amaratunga. His lecture, titled “The English Language for Cultural Linkages Towards an ‘Asian Ideology’ and Beyond” took place on October 03rd, 2023 from 1500 to 1640 via Microsoft Teams.
Mr. Kithsiri Amaratunga is an esteemed figure in academia, having previously served as the Former Dean of the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. With over 35 years of expertise in the English language and literature, alongside an impressive 18 – year tenure in university administration, he brings a weath of knowledge to the podium. Mr. Amaratunga holds an MPhil in English from the University of Kelaniya, a MA in Linguistics (Merit) from the same institution, and a BA (Special) in English with second class honours from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka.
The course is organized for the fourth consecutive year by the Department of Social Sciences, FMSH under a generous research grant awarded by the Eurasia Foundation (from Asia) in Japan. This course is scheduled to run from October 2023 to March 2024, catering to a select group of undergraduate students in intake 40, representing diverse faculties within KDU.
