Basic and Applied Sciences Session at the 16th International Research Conference (IRC) of KDU

The Institute for Combinatorial Advanced Research & Education (KDU-CARE) together with the Department of Basic Sciences of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences organized the Basic and Applied Sciences (BAS) Session of the 16th IRC. The session was organized and coordinated by Dr. Himali S. Jayasinghearachchi, Dr. Gihani U. Jayaweera, and Dr. Anchala I. Kuruppu.

On the 7th of September, a panel of resource persons was invited for the plenary session, themed ‘Harnessing Scientific Innovation for Sustainable Sectoral Transformation’ The BAS plenary session was chaired by Prof. T. Sugandhika Suresh, Professor in Biochemistry and Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The panel of speakers included:

  • Rahul Shukla, Scientist in Virology, Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow, India
  • Preethi Udagama, Cadre Chair & Senior Professor, Department of Zoology & Environment Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo
  • L. B. D. R. P. Wijesundera, Head of the Department, Senior Professor & Chair of Physics, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya
  • Tharanga Thoradeniya, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo

The second day of the BAS session comprised four technical sessions, during which around 50 papers were presented as oral and poster presentations. Winners for both oral and poster presentations were chosen at the end of the technical sessions. The session was deemed a success.
