KDU takes part in the International Water Conference 2022 organized by the National Water supply and Drainage Board
The Centre of Excellence for Water and Sanitation (CEWAS) of The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) hosted the International Water Conference 2022 from 14th to 17th December 2022, under the theme of “Water for Sustainable Development: Cooperation, Partnership, and Appropriate Technology”.
On the invitation of the NWSDB, the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Technology of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University showcased their innovations at the conference.
The department of Civil Engineering presented an exhibit on the novel concept of Coastal Reservoirs as a sustainable water management strategy. This is expected to be a good solution to the water scarcity in the country. The project is conducted in collaboration with the university of Wollongong, Australia. The Marine Engineering Department presented a solar powered domestic brackish water reverse osmosis plant to provide safe drinking water to the communities affected by Chronic Kidney Disease unknown etiology (CKDu). A loop heat pipe solar hot water heater utilizing Acetone designed and developed by the Faculty of Technology was also displayed.
The exhibition was attended by many local and foreign dignitaries.
