Adjutant

The Adjutant is an officer from Sri Lanka Army in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Adjutant functions under the direction and control of the Vice Chancellor and he is the Executive Officer to the Vice Chancellor.
Adjutant is responsible for maintenance of discipline in the University and in charge of all ceremonial matters of the University. Adjutant is also responsible for ensuring the security of the University and responsible for preparation and implementation of Standing Orders. Adjutant is responsible for the safe custody and control of weapons, ammunition and explosives.

Contribution of Tri Services Personal to the University

As a defence university, officers and other rankers from all three services contribute to the academic and administrative activities of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. There are officers attached to administrative positions, and some of the officers hold academic posts at the university, including positions such as dean of the faculty.

Military Officers

There are a total of 212 academic positions held by military personnel. They contribute by teaching specialized defense and strategy subjects, contributing to refining military education curriculum, serving as mentors fostering leadership skills and collaborating on defense research and publications. All in all, military officers holding academic positions contribute similar to their civilian counterparts to the academic activities of the university. There are 33 senior military staff officers hold senior academic positions in all campuses of KDU of which 20 senior officers are females.

Other Rankers

Other rankers attached to the university contribute to various activities at the university. There are 1286 personnel attached to different faculties and units. They have a key role in guiding students, promoting physical fitness, and instilling discipline among the students. The presence of these military personnel greatly impacts the university community, immensely enriching student life with unique experiences and perspectives.
