Centre for Disaster Management Research Holds a Collaborative Workshop with the Joint Centre for Disaster Research, Massey University and DMC, Sri Lanka
“Effective and Responsible Communication in a Crisis” with the Joint Centre for Disaster Research (JCDR), Massey University and Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Sri Lanka on 5th January 2023, from 0900 – 1200 hrs, at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, KDU.
Communication can be a very powerful tool to serve humanity, but irresponsible use or misuse can create chaos in a society, according to Dr Nilupul Gunasekara, the Director of CDMR-KDU, as mentioned in her introductory speech. Associate Professor Raj Prasanna, Deputy Director JCDR, Massey University shared his New Zealand experience on “Responsible Communication” while Ms. Anoja Seneviratne, representing DMC, emphasized on “Effective Communication” with regard to Disasters.
This workshop marked a milestone for CDMR-KDU and JCDR-Massey collaborations and was a culmination of the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed as early as year 2014, by two visionaries – Major General Milinda Peiris, Vice Chancellor, KDU and Prof. Jan Thomas, Vice Chancellor of Massey University, New Zealand.
