100th Senate meeting of KDU
On January 10, 2023, 100th Senate meeting of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was held at its Senate Room. Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil (Ind), the Vice Chancellor of KDU presided over the centenary Senate meeting of KDU.
The concept of establishing a Senate emerged after the renaming of the university as General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and with the establishment of faculties. Accordingly, the university’s inaugural academic gathering, known as the “Academic Conference,” was held on November 12, 2013, at the Senate Room, and it was presided by the Vice Chancellor, Major General Milinda Peiris. Further, the KDU’s first Senate Meeting dates back to January 21, 2014, and it was presided by Brig ALDM Gunasekara, who was serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Admin) since the incumbent Vice Chancellor was abroad for an official commitment.
Since then, KDU has grown significantly, and this historic day commemorates the achievement of a remarkable milestone and gives us cause to celebrate the grandeur of our accomplishments while reminiscing the past years during which KDU grew as one of the most prominent universities in Sri Lanka. Over the years, with the establishment of 11 faculties, KDU’s academic delivery has been broadened, and currently it offers a variety of degrees for both day scholars and officer cadets. In the centenary Senate Meeting, Vice Chancellor acknowledged and appreciated the work done by all the members who have been attached to KDU and especially commended the present staff for their dedication and commitment which contributed to the development of the university for a great extent.
