Centre for Disaster Management Research, KDU Initiates Collaborations with Global Disaster Resilience Centre, University of Huddersfield UK
The Centre for Disaster Management Research (CDMR– KDU) held a workshop together with the Global Disaster Resilience Centre (GDRC), University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom on 16th March 2023, from 0900- 1200 hrs, marking the initiation of collaborations between the two research centres. Prof. Dilanthi Amaratunga and Prof. Richard Haigh who are the Co-directors of GDRC, Huddersfield, UK along with their research team highlighted the need, opportunities and challenges in disaster risk reduction and management research.
The research team also consisting of Dr. Nuwan Dias who is a research fellow at GDRC, Mr. Asitha de Silva and Ms. Shavindree Nissanka, who are currently reading for their PhDs in GDRC, shared their experiences with the enthusiastic young crowd with aspirations of higher education.
The meeting held by the Vice Chancellor with the GDRC team headed by Prof. Dilanthi Amaratunga and the CDMR team lead by Dr. Nilupul Gunasekara, earlier in the day identified how best to strengthen the collaboration.
