KDU Surges Ahead in Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2023
For the second consecutive year, KDU has been ranked high in the latest Times Higher Education Impact ranking 2023. Improving from last year’s position, KDU has been ranked No. 1 in the country for ‘Quality Education’, and retained its No 1 position for ‘Reducing Inequalities. KDU has reached the top for “Gender Equality” from its previous 3rd position. Under the category of ‘Decent Work and Economic growth’”, KDU shares the second position with the University of Colombo. KDU was also able to retain its overall global and local position, behind the University of Sri J’pura and Kelania, which share the 3rd overall position in the country, showing a remarkable progression.
The high rankings KDU has received are a testament to the institution’s dedication to providing high-quality education, promoting equality, and fostering strong economic growth. With its impressive track record and numerous accolades, KDU aims to continue making strides in higher education and further strengthen its presence both nationally and internationally.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that evaluate universities based on their progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The most recent 2023 edition comprises 1,591 universities from 112 countries. The rankings assess the impact of universities on all 17 SDGs using a set of more than 100 parameters and over 200 measurements including teaching, research, community outreach, and stewardship of their own resources.
