IEEE WIE Affinity Group of KDU Grabs Dual Honors at IEEE Sri Lanka Section Awards Ceremony

In an extraordinary feat, the IEEE Women In Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University clinched two prestigious awards at the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Award Ceremony on November 4th at Carolina Beach Hotel, Chilaw.

The standout accomplishment of the night was the project “Cypher,” comprising Capture The Flag (CTF) and Hackathon, organized by the IEEE WIE Affinity Group of KDU. This dynamic initiative earned the esteemed title of the “Best Affinity Group Project of Sri Lankan Section” under the Student Category. On the other hand, the project, “Ricerca, achieved the remarkable feat of being nominated as one of the Best Affinity Group Projects as well. Adding to the jubilation, the IEEE WIE Affinity Group of KDU was also honored with the coveted “Emerging Affinity Group of Sri Lankan Section” award under the Student Branch Category. A significant aspect of this achievement is that the IEEE WIE Affinity Group of KDU was established on October 5th, 2021 and proudly attained the title of the “Emerging Affinity Group of Sri Lankan Section with the celebration of three years.

A heartfelt acknowledgement extends to the Vice Chancellor , Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, esteemed Student Branch Counselor, Dr. Asela Gunasekara, and the Advisors of IEEE WIE Affinity Group, Ms. Kalani Ilmini and Ms. Isuri Uwanthika, for their invaluable guidance and unwavering support. These accolades stand as a collective triumph, reflecting the tireless dedication of the entire IEEE Student Branch of KDU throughout the years. The visionary leadership provided by Past Chairwomen of IEEE WIE Affinity Group of KDU, including Ms. Nipuni Wickramarathna, Ms. Pamathi Gunarathne, Ms. Dewni Deraniyagala, and Current Chairwoman Ms.Gayashani Divyanjalee and her entire Executive Committee and the members played a pivotal role in steering the group towards these remarkable achievements.
