Inauguration Ceremony for Day Scholars – Intake 41
The Inauguration Ceremony for the Day Scholars of Intake 41, enlisted to follow Degree Programmes at the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, Faculty of Management, Social Sciences & Humanities, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Faculty of Criminal Justice was held on the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19thof January 2024, at the Indoor Stadium of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS), the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The distinguished invitees included Major General LCR Jayasuriya RSP ndc psc, Rector – Southern Campus KDU, Brigadier DCA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration), Prof. KAS Dhammika, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), all Deans of faculties, members of the academic staff and parents of the students.
The Vice Chancellor, in his address to the undergraduates, emphasized the qualitative and holistic educational experience at KDU while introducing them to the wide array of opportunities and extra-curricular activities available. He urged them to make use of such opportunities to develop as strong academics, sportsmen and women, equipped with efficient communication and social skills.He also stressed the importance of transparent and timely completion of undergraduate studies at KDU, highlighting the support provided by the staff and the academic precision of the program. The Vice Chancellor further emphasized the necessity for undergraduates to develop as fully-fledged professionals and dutiful citizens. The importance of protecting the reputation of KDU, which fosters fully employable graduates for the nation, was underscored at the occasion.
On the 16th of January 2024, intake41dayscholars were registered at the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies and the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences, and Humanities. There were 50dayscholars enrolled for the BSc in Strategic Studies and International Relations degree programs, and over 200 dayscholars were enrolled for the BSc in Logistics Management, BSc in Management and Technical Science, BSc in Applied Data Science Communication, and BA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) degree programs.
On the 17th of January 2024, 119 newly recruited undergraduates were registered at the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Technology for BET (Hons) Construction Technology, BET (Hons) Building Services Technology, BET (Hons) Biomedical Instrumentation Technology, BT (Hons) Information and Communication Technology, Applied Bio Technology (ABT), and 170 dayscholars to follow 11 other degree programs. These include Aeronautical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Naval Architecture.
On the 18th of January 2024, 122dayscholars were enrolled in the LLB Degree Programme, and 225 newly recruited undergraduates were registered at the Faculty of Computing on the same day. At the KDU Southern Campus premises, a combined total of 116 students were registered for the BSc (Hons) in Information Technology and BSc (Hons) in Information Systems within the Department of Information Technology. On the same day, at the KDU Ratmalana premises in the Department of Computer Science, students were enrolled in the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering totaled 55. Simultaneously, the Department of Computer Engineering had 19 students enrolling in the BSc (Hons) in Computer Engineering degree program. Additionally, within the Department of Computational Mathematics, 35 dayscholars registered for the BSc (Hons) in Data Science & Business Analytics degree program.
On the 19th of January 2024, dayscholars were enrolled for the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Faculty of Criminal Justice. There were 210 dayscholars for the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences eligible to pursue BSc (Hons) Nursing, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, BSc (Hons) Medical Laboratory Sciences, BSc (Hons) Radiography, BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy, and Bachelor of Pharmacy degree programs. Additionally, 32 dayscholars enlisted for the BSc Criminology and Criminal Justice Degree Programme, specifically designed for police officers.
The session was followed by refreshments, during which the Vice Chancellor and members of the staff interacted with students and their parents.
