KDU SHOOTING SPORTS ASSOCIATION IGNITES PASSION AT ANNUAL AWARENESS SESSION
Shooting sports offer more than just physical prowess; they cultivate mental fortitude, discipline, and precision – qualities invaluable in any walk of life. The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Shooting Sports Association (KDU SSA) underscored this significance at their annual awareness session held on 13 August 2024 at the FGS Auditorium.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by the newly appointed Captain of KDUSSA, Day Scholar Githmi Gunawardane, who extended an invitation to join the KDUSSA family. A captivating video followed, showcasing the university’s rich shooting history and the team’s remarkable achievements.

A pivotal moment arrived with the appointment of the KDUSSA board of officials for 2024/25, setting the stage for a new era of leadership. A nostalgic video journey through the previous year’s triumphs followed, rekindling the spirit of fellowship and achievement. Mr Nandana Weerasinghe, Coach NSSF, a key architect of the team’s success, shared his invaluable insights. Dayscholar Menuka Wellalage, the former captain’s reflections for offered a poignant perspective.
200 Officer Cadets and Day Scholars participated. The event which was graced by, Lieutenant Colonel KTDS Kalansooriya USP psc the Deputy Dean of Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies and Major BGSP Samarasinghe Lsc, Staff Officer II at Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, Major SMPUN De Silva RSP – Sports Officer KDU, Major PMP Pannalage -Officer In Charge of KDUSSA, Lieutenant KMDDB Rathnayake -Seceond In Charge KDUSSA and other invitees.
The awareness session served as a catalyst for fostering a deeper understanding of shooting sports, inspiring new recruits, and reaffirming the commitment of the KDU SSA to excellence. As the curtain fell on this enriching event, it marked the beginning of a promising journey for the association and its members.
