Kodeuwwa: The Artistic Forum of IEEE PES KDU Stages Historic Drama to Support “Sip Sathara”
The IEEE PES KDU proudly launched Kodeuwwa – the artistic forum of IEEE PES KDU with a momentous theatrical performance: a Sinhalese adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Staged on October 28, 2024, at the Faculty of Graduate Studies Auditorium, this event was historic, marking the first-ever stage drama at KDU.
Adding to its significance, the production aligned with the 44th death anniversary of Sir John Kotelawala, honoring his legacy while pioneering a new cultural tradition at the university. The play, directed by the renowned theater artist Jayanath Bandara, captivated audiences by blending Sri Lankan culture, humor, and drama into the timeless love story.
With two mesmerizing performances at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., the event drew an enthusiastic crowd, including the Vice-Chancellor of KDU, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The success of Kodeuwwa not only celebrated the artistic spirit of KDU but also contributed to “Sip Sathara”, an initiative dedicated to supporting educational advancement for students in need.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire drama team for their dedication and hard work in bringing this remarkable performance to life. Their efforts have etched a new chapter in KDU’s history, proving that art and education go hand in hand.
