44th KDU Day Celebrated with Pomp and Pageantry Honoring the Vice Chancellor
General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), the prestigious Defence University in Sri Lanka renowned for providing high-quality education to both military and civilian students, celebrated its 44th anniversary-KDU Day-on 28th October 2024 with grandeur at its Rathmalana campus. The premises was adorned with colorful flags and formations, creating a vibrant spectacle for the day’s formal events. Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara VSV USP psc MMaritime Pol BSc (DS), the Vice Chancellor of KDU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adding dignity and prominence to the commemoration. The glittering ceremony commenced with the heralded arrival of the Vice Chancellor, setting an impressive tone for the proceedings
Following military tradition, a smartly-attired Guard Turnout salute greeted the Chief Guest upon his entry to the KDU premises, where he was offered the guard of honour and welcomed by Major General LCR Jayasuriya RSP ndc psc, Rector of the Southern Campus.
This year’s KDU Day parade, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel AMP Amarasingha RWP RSP USP psc, Deputy Dean of FDSS, along with Major SD Abeweera USP psc SLA, 2nd in Command, featured 19 Officers, 162 Officer Cadets, and 22 Other Ranks in addition to the Colours Squad. After reviewing the parade, the Vice Chancellor received a formal salute from the elegantly dressed troops, in keeping with military tradition.
The 44th KDU Day was a fitting celebration of the university’s distinguished legacy, marked by ceremonial precision and heartfelt tribute to its esteemed leadership.
