KDU Chapter of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) Holds Annual General Meeting for 2025/26

The KDU Chapter of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year 2025/26 on January 29, 2025, at the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) Auditorium. The event began with the singing of the KDU Anthem, which set a solemn and spirited tone for the proceedings.
The agenda for the AGM included several key events, starting with the presentation of the minutes from the previous AGM, followed by a detailed review of the activities undertaken by the outgoing committee. This segment provided valuable insights into the past year’s accomplishments and set the foundation for continued progress. Subsequently, appointing a new committee for the forthcoming year ensures seamless continuation of the chapter’s objectives. A significant highlight of the event was the official launch of the new logo of the society, marking a fresh identity and direction for the chapter.
The AGM was honored by the presence of esteemed guests, with Professor Thushara Weerawardhane, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at KDU, serving as the Chief Guest. The event was further graced by Dr. Upuli Warnakula, a distinguished cabin crew member of Sri Lankan Airlines and a renowned scholar on emotional intelligence, as the Guest of Honor. Dr. Upuli delivered an insightful address on balancing work and life commitments while excelling in the demanding aviation industry. Her words resonated with the students, fostering motivation and enthusiasm for their future careers.
Professor Thushara Weerawardhane also shared his vision on the significance of extracurricular activities in complementing academic studies. He emphasized that active participation in professional societies such as RAeS enriches students’ technical knowledge and enhances their leadership and teamwork skills, preparing them for the challenges of the aerospace and aviation industries.
The AGM concluded on a high note, with the newly appointed committee expressing their commitment to continuing the chapter’s legacy of excellence. The KDU Chapter of RAeS looks forward to another successful year of engaging initiatives, technical discussions, and professional development activities to foster innovation and leadership in aeronautics.
