KDU PONGAL 2025: A Grand Cultural Extravaganza

The Tamil student body of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) organized a vibrant Pongal Celebration on the 5th of February 2025 at the KDU Soccer Ground, uniting students, faculty, and dignitaries to celebrate the harvest festival in splendour. The event beautifully captured the essence of Pongal, a festival dedicated to expressing gratitude for nature’s bounty. The students and faculty came together to celebrate Tamil heritage, fostering cultural appreciation and strengthening unity within the KDU community.
The event was led by the Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, VSV, USP, psc, MmaritimePol, BSc (DS), who graced the occasion as the chief guest, adding prestige and significance to the celebration. The event was further honored by the presence of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence and Administration) Major General CA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC, senior military officers, senior administrative officers, Deans, Heads of departments, academic and administrative staff, and students, all of whom were warmly welcomed.
The atmosphere was filled with joy, cultural richness, and a spirit of unity as students showcased their talents through various traditional and contemporary performances. The celebration featured a variety of performances like Bharathanatyam, semi-classical dance, drama, group song, instrumental performance, and freestyle dance, adding more colour to the celebration.
With the successful execution of the KDU Pongal Celebr2025, the event left a lasting impression on all attendees, promising even more grandeur in the years to come.
