Brain Health Advancement Forum Successfully Held at KDU

The Brain Health Advancement Forum took place on February 20, 2025, at the University Hospital Auditorium, KDU. The session, chaired by Dr Prasanna Herath, featured key addresses from Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara and Professor Tissa Wijeratne, who joined online. The deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence and Administration), Major General Chinthaka Wickramasinghe and the active participation of all Brain Health Ambassadors marked this event as a significant milestone in promoting brain health awareness.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of integrating brain health into university education and recognized the ambassadors as role models. He encouraged university staff and lecturers to incorporate brain health initiatives into academic programs and urged ambassadors to organize at least one awareness event within the university community. Additionally, he discussed the potential for expanding the initiative beyond KDU to reach a broader audience.
Joining online, Professor Tissa Wijeratne shared insights into advancements in brain health and future directions. He praised the progress of KDU and encouraged ambassadors to uphold brain health principles while extending the initiative to the broader community. His address reinforced the importance of continuous education and practical application in brain health advocacy.
Dr. Prasanna Herath reviewed the forum’s progress and announced the next Brain Health Program, scheduled for March 6, 2025. This session will focus on skills training in anthropometric measurements, blood pressure monitoring, and blood sugar assessments. Ambassadors shared positive feedback, highlighting their personal growth and commitment to brain health promotion.
The event reaffirmed the dedication of the KDU to brain health advocacy, with leadership and ambassadors working collaboratively to create a lasting impact within the university and beyond. Dr. Prasanna Herath affirmed that the program would continue to expand, incorporating more specialized training and outreach efforts in the near future.
