All Island Shakthi Bench Press Tournament 2025: Records Shattered and Champions Crowned

The All Island Bench Press Powerlifting Tournament 2025 was a spectacular display of strength and determination, with KDU athletes from various categories competing for the top spots. This year’s event was particularly special, as several records were broken, showcasing the increasing level of competition in the sport.

A New National Record Set

One of the most remarkable achievements of the tournament came from Day Scholar IDNSB Gunawardana, who shattered a national record in the 84+ kg weight category by lifting an impressive 62.5 kg. This outstanding feat set a new benchmark in the history of Sri Lankan bench press tournaments.

Open Category Winners

In the highly competitive Open Category, the following athletes secured medals:

  • Silver Medal: O/C KGI Manage
  • Bronze Medal: FCQMS PAGA Chathuranga

Under-23 (Junior) Champions

The junior category saw an array of remarkable performances, with four athletes clinching gold medals:

Gold Medalists:

  • DS CT Ranasinghe
  • DS KM Wimalasooriya
  • DS IDSNB Gunawardana
  • L/O/C BNR Fernando

Silver Medalists:

Two athletes secured silver medals, showcasing their exceptional talent and strength:

  • L/O/C KDRN Karannagoda
  • C/L/CPL GGRMD Senevirathna

The Junior Championship was fiercely contested, with young athletes displaying remarkable discipline and endurance. Their performances highlighted the bright future of bench press in Sri Lanka, setting the stage for even greater achievements in the years to come.

The All Island Bench Press Powerlifting Tournament 2025 proved to be an event of thrilling records and inspiring performances. With athletes continuing to push their limits, the future of KDU powerlifting looks stronger than ever. Congratulations to all the winners and participants who made this event an unforgettable success!
