
KDU INTER-FACULTY BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2025: A SUCCESSFUL SHOWCASE OF TALENT AND SPORTSMANSHIP
The much-awaited Inter-Faculty Basketball Tournament 2025, held at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), concluded in a thrilling and competitive display of sportsmanship. The tournament commenced with the qualification matches on 18th March 2025, setting the stage for the exciting league games leading up to the finals. The tournament culminated in the finals on 19th March 2025, alongside the grand closing ceremony.
The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor of KDU, Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS), who was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellors, Military Officers and Academic Staff. Their presence added prestige to the event and further highlighted the importance of the tournament within the university community.
In the highly competitive league format, the women’s teams showcased exceptional talent and resilience. The Faculty of Law (FOL) emerged as the Women’s Champion, while the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS) secured the Runner-up position. The Faculty of Engineering (FOE) rounded off the podium with a strong performance, claiming the second Runner-up.
On the men’s side, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) claimed the top honours, emerging as the Men’s Champion. The Faculty of Medicine (FOM) demonstrated their skill and determination to finish as the Men’s Runner-up, while the Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities (FMSH) put up an admirable fight, finishing as the Men’s second Runner-up.
The Inter-Faculty Basketball Tournament 2025 not only showcased the athletic prowess of the participants but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition among the faculties. The dedication and sportsmanship displayed by all teams were a testament to the university’s commitment to promoting extracurricular activities that contribute to the holistic development of students.
