Oath Ceremony of Intake 41 – BSc Nursing Undergraduates, Department of Nursing & Midwifery, FAHS

The Oath-Taking Ceremony of the Intake 41 BSc Nursing undergraduates of the Department of Nursing & Midwifery, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS), was ceremoniously held on 26th March 2025 at the Auditorium of University Hospital – KDU (UH-KDU).
The event was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including representatives from the Sri Lanka Nursing Council, affiliated teaching hospitals, universities, and officials from KDU and UH-KDU. The ceremony was further honoured by Miss R.A.D.C. Karunaratne, Chief Nursing Officer of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, who served as the Guest of Honour.
Surgeon (Capt.) Ranga Perera, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, marking the commencement of this symbolic event. A total of one hundred and one nursing undergraduates received their nursing caps and lamps, signifying their formal induction into the nursing profession and their readiness to serve with compassion, integrity, and commitment.
The Chief Guest, Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS), Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, addressed the gathering with words of encouragement, emphasizing the critical role of human values, ethics, and professionalism in the journey ahead as healthcare providers.
Delivering the ceremonial address, the Guest of Honour highlighted the profound significance of the oath and the deep responsibilities that nursing professionals undertake. Her words served as a powerful reminder of the evolving role of nurses in dynamic and demanding healthcare systems.
The ceremony concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr Prasanna Herath, Head of the Department of Nursing & Midwifery, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the event. This year, the event was coordinated by Mr. WGC Kumara from the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, FAHS, KDU.
This meaningful event not only marked an academic milestone in the lives of the undergraduates but also reaffirmed their commitment to the noble calling of nursing—dedicating their careers to the service of humanity.
