Oath Ceremony of Intake 39 Nursing Undergraduates of FAHS
The Oath Ceremony of the Intakes 39 B.Sc. Nursing Undergraduates of the Department of Nursing & Midwifery, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences was held on 17th March 2023 at the Auditorium, UHKDU with the participation of Mrs Ashoka Abeynayaka, Director Nursing Education, Ministry of Health as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony was graced by the distinguished invitees from the Ministry of Health, Teaching hospitals, KDU, UHKDU and other Universities. The welcome speech was done by the Dean – Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Surgeon (Capt.) Ranga Perera. Eighty-four nursing undergraduates of the Intake 39 received their caps and lamps, and took their oath on this solemn ceremony and symbolically dedicated to nursing service ambitiously and diligently. The cap is a symbol of humility and nobility. Wearing the cap proclaims nurses’ readiness to voluntarily take responsibilities of caring for the sick, the needy or anyone and everyone, whether ailing in the body or spirit.
The Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil (Ind) congratulated the students as the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the importance of ethical and empathic conduct of the nurses as they begin a new journey in their career as a professional nurse. The Guest of Honour delivered the ceremonial speech and highlighted the importance of the oath ceremony for the student nurses. Dr Kalpani Abhayasinghe, Head of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery delivered the vote of thanks.
