The Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony with Logistics Park (Private) Limited and General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University

In a ground breaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing the Warehousing Industry in Sri Lanka, a collaborative project titled ‘Developing an Operating Model for the Warehousing Industry in Sri Lanka’ was launched on 19^th May 2023 at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. Spearheaded by Logistics Park (Private) Limited and General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, this project aims to obtain expert service to develop an innovative operating model that will enhance efficiency, optimize resource utilization, and boost the overall competitiveness of the Warehousing Industry.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed by Vice Chancellor, Major General Milinda Peiris, on behalf of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Mr. Nishan Hewagamage, Chief Operating Officer -3PL on behalf of Logistics Park (Private) Limited. Dr. Namali Sirisoma, Director-Career Guidance Unit, and Mr. V.D. Kithsiri, Registrar, were the witnesses from the University. Mr. Wimukthi Bandara, Senior Manager, Data Science & Solutions, and Ms. Anushi Hewamaraba, Assistant Manager, Data Science & Solutions were the witnesses from the company.

Thusitha Gamage, General Manager Data Science and Logistics solutions, Ms.  Sudarshi Alwis, Legal Officer, and Samoudya Wickramasooriya, Assistant Manager – Data Science & Solutions participated in representing Logistics Park (Private) Limited. Dr. Harishani Liyanage, Senior Lecturer from Univeristy of Moratuwa, Dr. Preadeep Kalansooriya Head of the Department of Department of Computer Science, KDU, Ms. Dushanthi Lokuge, Head of the Department of Management and Finance, KDU, Ms. Krishanthi Anandawansa, Senior Lecturer from Department of Languages, and Research Assistant, Ms. Dilini Kariyawasam participated representing the consulting team.

The primary purpose of this project is to redefine the operating model for the Warehousing Industry in Sri Lanka. By identifying and addressing existing bottlenecks, the project aims to uplift and standardize the existing set-up of the Warehousing Industry in Sri Lanka. The new operating model will Increase existing capacities and service capabilities to attract more business into the country. The project aims to introduce certification standards for job categories in the Warehousing Industry and will be implemented in three phases. The printed operating model will be published at the end of phase one.

The successful implementation of the new operating model is expected to yield significant benefits for the Warehousing Industry in Sri Lanka. By leveraging technology and digital solutions, warehouses will become more agile and capable of handling evolving market demands. The project will also foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among industry stakeholders, creating a vibrant ecosystem that encourages innovation and sustainability.
