If you need help during your studies, KDU offers a wide range of support services to assist you with any problems you may face, including those of an academic or personal nature. The student services and facilities available vary depending on the campus.

Student Services

  • Counselling

Trained counsellors are available to provide students who are facing challenges in their studies, relationships, or issues.   • Careers Guidance

Careers guidance unit provide counselling and guidance to students who are unsure of what field they want to enter after graduation and need some guidance choosing careers, as well as final-year students looking for their first job.

  • Accommodation

KDU provides free accommodation for all officer cadets joining degree programmes offered. Day scholars are provided accommodation in its Sooriyawewa campus for a subsidized fee. Students can obtain information about on- and off-campus accommodation options from faculties.

  • Clubs and Societies

Club activities are also an integral part of KDU student life. The Clubs are proposed and run by the students themselves under the guidance and supervision of the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies. These activities inculcate officer cadets and day scholars with the necessary sense of teamwork and brotherhood while engaging in activities they like.   • Transport

KDU offers its students discounted pricing on transport services. Students can travel to and from KDU for 30 days and pay for 15 days of travel time. Numerous buses travel between Horana, Pokunuwita, Avissawell, and Negambo, as well as other sites, serving all of the suburbs in and surrounding Colombo. Although these bus services follow rigid timetables, they also give students freedom. MTO offices have complete route maps, schedules, and fare information.

 

Campus Facilities

  • Medical Facilities

On-campus Medical room can provide first-aid treatment and information and referrals. Students may also be able to make an appointment with the doctor or access dental services at a very reduced cost. KDU hospital also provide subsidized medical facilities for all students in the university.

  • Libraries and Computer Labs

Access to a well-stocked library makes it a lot easier to accomplish your homework and get some quiet study done between classes. KDU has faculty-specific libraries (such as for medicine or engineering). These contain resources and books specifically curated for the courses taught. Each library staff member is intimately knowledgeable about the relevant field, offering guidance in finding the right materials. They are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and seating infrastructure, providing students with an optimal learning environment. Getting the desired book or reference paper is straightforward with an in-place reservation system. A digital version of the library is also made available for ease of e-learning.

  • Computer Labs

Computer labs are a must for completing assignments and research between your classes. KDU even offer secure 24-hour computer labs. You may also find that there are special computer labs (such as cluster computer) set aside for certain students who require specific software.

  • Prayer Rooms and Chaplains

KDU has prayer rooms for all main faiths. Prayer rooms provide a quiet place for students to pray and reflect during breaks. While these rooms accommodate collective prayers, individuals seeking privacy are also welcome. Each room has been furnished to adhere comfortably to its users’ respective faith practices. Additionally, KDU pays special attention to maintaining regular sanitation to ensure the high cleanliness levels required, thus fostering a safe, serene environment for spiritual solitude.

  • Sporting Facilities

The officer cadets and Day Scholars are expected to maintain their physical fitness and foster a comradeship in keeping with the service traditions by actively participating in sports. They are encouraged and required to play at least one team game during their stay at KDU. The university provides facilities and equipment for games such as soccer, cricket, rugby and many more. Trained civilian/service Instructors and Coaches provide training to individual and Teams. KDU teams play regular matches against other universities and sports clubs throughout the year. From coffee shops and cafeteria to Honor shop mean you never have to leave the campus. The discounted student rates that these facilities provide are always useful. You may also discover important services such as laundry, shoe mending, and barber shops, where students can get their services at a low rate.
