KDU Launches First Dedicated Website for Sustainable Development
General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University launched its first-ever dedicated website for sustainable development in an event held at the Vice Chancellor’s conference hall on November 7, 2023. The Vice-Chancellor, Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara officially launched the website, opening a new era for KDU in its march towards sustainability. The event was also attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence and Administration) Brigadier DCA Wickramasinghe and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. KAS Dhammika.
The official launch of the website marks a significant step in ensuring transparency and accessibility to information regarding KDU’s sustainability efforts. Through this platform, KDU aims to furnish information pertaining to the sustainability initiatives undertaken, educate staff and students about sustainable practices, encourage community involvement, and engage with other institutions and organizations to further promote sustainable practices and initiatives. This endeavour aligns with KDU’s vision of becoming a leading institution in sustainable development.
In his address to the gathering, the Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to all those who have contributed to KDU’s success in attaining SDG targets and its influence on society and the nation as a whole. He highlighted the importance of shared responsibility in achieving sustainable development goals and emphasized the need for the integration of sustainable practices in all aspects of KDU’s operations.
Prof Prasanna Premadasa, the chair of the KDU committee on sustainability, thanked everyone who helped develop the platform and stated that by making KDU’s sustainability efforts public, KDU not only aims to showcase how KDU’s strategies are aligned with UN’s SDGs but also aims to move up in world university ranking tables.
The launch event concluded with a sustainability pledge to uphold the university’s commitment to sustainable development and to inspire others to follow suit.
