EXTRAVAGANZA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP
The APIIT University – Sri Lanka recently hosted a Swimming Championship “EXTRAVAGANZA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP”, showcasing the talent of young swimmers. The Championship was held on 3rd and 4th of August at the St. Joseph Swimming Pool Complex. Many universities participated in this prestigious meet to reveal their prowess. The team from the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University emerged as a the overall Runner’s up, Men’s Runner’s up and Women’s Runner’s up, Show casting their dominance with an impressive medal haul:

Among the standout swimmers, Officer Cadet SKV Hatharasinghe won 1 gold and 2 silver medals, Day-Scholar SM Thennakoon won 1 gold and 2 silver medals, Day-Scholar GEV De Silva won 2 gold and 1 Bronze medals, Day-Scholar Nadith Fernando won 2 Silver Medals, Officer Cadet NS Ahamed won 1 silver medal, Day-Scholar Amandi Kulathilaka won 1 silver and 2 bronze medals, Day-Scholar KS Fernando won 1 Bronze medal, and In 200m Medley Relay both men and mixed team of KDU secured the Gold Medal.
KDU team’s stellar performance underscored the institution’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent alongside academic pursuits, earning them well-deserved recognition on the podium.
While the championship celebrated athletic achievement, it also served as a platform for fostering camaraderie and promoting the spirit of sportsmanship. Participants bonded over shared passion and mutual respect, transcending institutional rivalries to forge lasting connections within the swimming community.
Ultimately the event manifested with a heap of medals. In future KDU would hope for success and aim high.
