Inauguration Ceremony for Day Scholars – Intake 42
The Inauguration Ceremony for the Day Scholars of Intake 42, registered to pursue Degree Programmes in all the faculties at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was held on the 04th, 05th, 06th, and 07th of November 2024, at the Soccer Ground of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara, the Vice Chancellor of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The distinguished invitees included Major General CA Wickramasinghe, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration), Prof. KAS Dhammika, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Deans of faculties, members of the academic staff, and parents of the students.
The Vice Chancellor, in his address, warmly welcomed the newly enrolled students and their parents to the university, emphasizing the pride and excitement of beginning this academic journey. He highlighted the qualitative and holistic educational experience at KDU while introducing them to the wide array of opportunities and extracurricular activities available. He encouraged them to make use of such opportunities to develop as strong academics, sportsmen, and women, equipped with efficient communication and social skills. The Vice Chancellor encouraged students to take up a disciplined, knowledgeable, resilient, and balanced life. Additionally, he thanked all the parents for their trust in the university. Finally, the speech concluded with a call to embrace the university’s core values as a foundation for future success, inspiring students to make meaningful contributions both within and beyond KDU.
While congratulating the new intake for being selected to this prestigious university for their tertiary education, the respective Deans of the faculties provided an overview of the resources and academic support available to all students and discussed the wealth of opportunities for both personal and academic growth at the university. Further, they highlighted that KDU is an exceptional establishment built on pillars like academic excellence, discipline, diversity, and innovation, where hardworking undergraduates are recognized and rewarded.
The session was followed by a display of sports and club activity stalls showcasing the extracurricular activities in which students can engage in to hone their skills and abilities. During refreshments, the Vice Chancellor and members of the staff interacted with the students and their parents.
