Major General (Retd) Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, inducted to KDU Hall of Fame

On December 9, 2024, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) proudly inducted Major General (Retd) Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, a distinguished alumnus, into its Hall of Fame. Major General Milinda Peiris served as the Vice Chancellor of KDU from December 28, 2008, to February 2016, and was reappointed to the position for a second tenure from 2019 to 2023. Under his leadership, the university transformed into a fully-fledged institution comprising eleven academic faculties, and he played a pivotal role in establishing KDU as a leader in the field of tertiary education, empowering thousands of local and international students. Notably, during his initial tenure as Vice Chancellor, he dedicated immense effort to the establishment of the Medical Faculty of KDU, which gained national and international recognition for its exceptional ability to produce highly skilled military medical graduates to meet the healthcare needs of the tri-services, the state sector, and society as a whole.

The ceremony, infused with a sense of solemnity, featured the unveiling of his portfolio in the university’s Hall of Fame. The event began with a floral tribute, as Major General (Retd) Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil paid his respects at the War Heroes’ Monument, honoring the courageous KDU alumni from the Tri-Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Maj Gen MP Peiris (Rtd) and Mrs N Peiris were escorted to the FGS Auditorium, where they were greeted by an enchanting cultural dance. The occasion was enhanced by a digital presentation showcasing the induction of Maj Gen MP Peiris (Rtd) into the Hall of Fame. Additionally, he was formally recognized with the presentation of a certificate commemorating the event.

He shared valuable insights into the challenges he faced throughout his journey and emphasized the personal traits essential for cultivating a strong character.
