KDU COMMENCES THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR – 2025

With the dawn of New Year 2025, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University ceremonially commenced its new academic year on 1^st January 2025 at the university premises.

This remarkable event began with a Tri-Services Guard Turnout, presented to Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara VSV, USP, psc, the Vice Chancellor of KDU at the University main entrance, and the commencement of the academic year 2025 was marked with hoisting of the National Flag and KDU Flag followed by singing of the national and KDU anthems. Further, two minutes of silence was observed to commemorate the war heroes who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland. Thereafter, all military and civil staff members declared the Oath of State Services following the national programme which was held at the Presidential Secretariat with His  Excellency the President heading the programme.

The Vice Chancellor addressed Officer Cadets, Day Scholars and University Staff and highlighted KDU’s commitment in adhering to the government policy of overcoming the present challenges, the contribution of the public servants, and the contribution that is expected of KDU as a state university. Further, he commended everyone who contributed towards the excellent performance of the University in the year 2024.

The event concluded with the awarding of scholarships sponsored by the Sir John Kotelawala Memorial Fund to 61 students from the Sir John Kotelawala Maha Vidyalaya, Kandawala Navodya School, and children of KDU staff members who excelled at the Grade 5 Scholarship and GCE- O/L examinations.
