The IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) has taken a remarkable step towards empowering young minds through its inaugural Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, Sip Sathara – “Sihina Dakinnata Pannarayak.” This initiative aims to foster education and technology accessibility for underprivileged students, setting the stage for a brighter future.
The first phase of Sip Sathara focused on essential upgrades at Pannila Weerasinghe Maha Vidyalaya. With the generous support of Phoenix Solar Solutions Pvt Ltd and funds raised through “Kodewwa” – the artistic forum of IEEE PES KDU – the undergraduates of IEEE PES KDU successfully renovated the school’s computer lab. This included upgrading four existing computers and donating two additional units, transforming the space into a fully equipped and inviting learning hub for students. The opening ceremony of the computer lab took place on 25th October 2024.
Beyond enhancing technological resources, the initiative extended to a complete electrical wiring renovation throughout the school, ensuring a safer and more reliable environment for both students and staff. These efforts have laid a strong foundation for a secure and tech-enabled educational experience, empowering young learners to reach their full potential.
The IEEE PES KDU remains committed to making a lasting impact through meaningful community-driven initiatives. Sip Sathara is just the beginning, paving the way for a future where education and innovation go hand in hand.
