In Memoriam : Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe

It is with profound sorrow that we remember Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Law at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. A deeply respected academic and a leader, Mr. Wijesinghe’s presence enriched our university community. Undoubtedly, Mr. Wijesinghe was a colossal figure who set the path for what Faculty of Law stands for today. Through his tireless labour , fortitude and resilience, FOL stands strong and unbeatable today.
Mr. Wijesinghe joined the Faculty of Law in 2010 as a Senior Lecturer and served the university with commitment and dedication for over fifteen years. Besides his commitment in fostering the level of legal education in the Faculty, he moulded the fraternity of Faculty of Law into a unique faculty, which later became a benchmark. The level of strict discipline and shared values he inculcated among the students of the Faculty elevated the status of KDU law graduates to significant heights, so that legal practitioners, law firms and even judges tend to admire Law Graduates of KDU. When the Principal of Law College himself proclaimed Faculty of Law – KDU as the number one law school in Sri Lanka, Mr. Wijesinghe was elated.
As a visionary leader, he played a pivotal role in the growth and institutional development of the Faculty of Law, guiding it to new heights. His mentorship, humility, and wisdom inspired generations of students, many of whom have gone on to become successful professionals in the field of law. Reaching beyond the dogma of theories, he opted for a more pragmatic approach in decision making. At a time when loyalty has become rare, Mr. Wijesinghe remained loyal to KDU. His life revolved around this institution, and was fully dedicated to its progression.
His absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. His dedication to the university and his compassionate support throughout his tenure will always be remembered with deep respect and lasting gratitude.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his beloved family, friends, colleagues, and students during this difficult time.
