KDU Empowers Future Leaders Through Specialized Leadership Training Programs
The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) once again demonstrated its commitment to national development by successfully conducting two impactful leadership training programs in June 2025. These programs were tailored to cultivate leadership, teamwork, and professional etiquette among key stakeholders from both the healthcare and education sectors.
On the 26th and 27th of June 2025, KDU conducted a comprehensive two-day leadership training program for Medical Officers and Allied Health Staff of the National Institute of Traditional Medicine – Maharagama. The program was meticulously designed to enhance their leadership competencies and professional soft skills. It included sessions on leadership development, soft skills enhancement, and team-building activities, as well as a Zumba program aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being. In addition, participants received training in social etiquette and took part in a cultural event that fostered camaraderie and mutual respect among healthcare professionals. The event highlighted the importance of holistic development in the medical field and was received with great enthusiasm.
Following this, on the 28th of June 2025, KDU extended its leadership development initiative to the Prefects’ Guild of Loyola College, Bopitiya. This one-day program aimed to shape the leadership potential of the next generation of school leaders. The training covered key areas such as an introduction to leadership, the development of core leadership qualities, dining etiquette, and team-building exercises. The program concluded with cultural activities that promoted unity, creativity, and collaborative spirit among the student leaders.
KDU ensured that both programs were conducted in a highly professional environment, offering all participants comfortable facilities, meals, and refreshments throughout the sessions. The university’s initiative not only provided valuable knowledge and skills to participants but also underscored its role as a national hub for leadership and character development.
These programs reflect KDU’s continued effort to extend its expertise beyond military and academic boundaries, offering valuable life skills to diverse segments of society. Through such outreach initiatives, KDU reinforces its vision of shaping disciplined, responsible, and effective leaders across all sectors of Sri Lanka.
