INTAKE 42 OFFICER CADETS EXPERIENCE LIVE FIRING AT PANALUWA FIRING RANGE
The Officer Cadets of Intake 42, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was conducted the first live firing experience on 12 July 2025 at the Panaluwa Firing Range under the supervision of the Dean of Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies. This exercise formed an integral component of their academic and military curriculum and was aimed at developing essential combat proficiency and confidence in weapon handling.
A total of 203 officer cadets, including foreign officer cadets representing allied nations, actively participated in this live firing exercise. The session provided a critical opportunity for the cadets to familiarize themselves with the practical aspects of marksmanship under supervised conditions, thereby reinforcing the theoretical knowledge acquired during their training.
This initial live firing exercise serves as a foundation in the transformation of young cadets into professional military leaders. It not only enhances their technical and tactical capabilities but also instills the discipline, focus, and resilience required for operational success in the field.
As Intake 42 continues to advance through their training, this event stands to growth and determination of Officer Cadets to uphold the highest standards of military professionalism.
