Abbreviated Title: B.Pharm(Hons)

Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University started offering Bachelor of Pharmacy degree program in the year 2013 with the intention of producing quality pharmacists to contribute the advancement of the pharmacy profession in the country. 

This program is a full-time course which runs for 4 years and has forged a strong teaching partnership with the Hospital authorities, Ministry of health, community pharmacies, and local pharmaceutical manufactures. In the undergraduate period, the students will be exposed to an array of innovative learning environments with balanced knowledge and practice-based teaching. 

The Bachelor of Pharmacy degree is conferred upon those students who have satisfied all the credits requirements by passing the stipulated examinations and have successfully completed the research project. The curriculum is designed and continuously improved with the aim of preparing graduates who could effectively deliver outstanding pharmaceutical services to the nation.

Academic Hours

Consists of 55 course modules with total of 126 credits
One credit equals:

  • 15 hours of lectures. 
  • 15 hours of tutorials/SGD/Clinical Based Discussions.
  • 30 hours of practical skill training.
  • 45 hours of clinical practical/In service training
  • For the research project, 90 hours is equivalent to one credit. 
Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements:  

be between 17-24 years of age by the closing date of applications 

And

Be eligible to apply for university admission and have fulfilled the following requirements,

  • Have passed three subjects in the General Certificate in Education (GCE) Advanced Level (A/L) examination in Biological or Physical Sciences stream including at least a Credit pass (C) for Chemistry at the GCE (A/L) examination.
  • Have at least a Credit pass (C) for English at the GCE (O/L) examination.
  • Have passed the Common General Test conducted by the Department of Examinations.
    Or
  • Equivalent qualifications in London A/Ls (Cambridge or Edexcel) or in any other equivalent foreign examination 
    Or
  • Candidates applying with foreign high school diplomas should pass SAT and TOEFL examinations with a minimum score of 550 / 120 respectively or IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall band score of 6.5. 
    And
  • Have pass marks at the Aptitude test (IQ/ General Knowledge/ Subject Knowledge) and English language test conducted by KDU along with satisfactory performance at the interview
