Department of Physiotherapy is one of the leading departments in Faculty of Allied Health Sciences that offer Bachelor of Science Honours Physiotherapy (BSc. Hons.Physiotherapy). This program was implemented in 2013 and presented as 4 year full time degree course. The program is designed to meet the mission and objectives of the department of Physiotherapy. 

Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physiotherapy curriculum has been designed for students to acquire sufficient knowledge of the principles and techniques in Physiotherapy practice. It will provide students, comprehensive knowledge and expertise in all disciplines of Physiotherapy at undergraduate level. A BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy course unit uses diverse teaching learning methods such as lectures, practical sessions, as well as hospital and community based clinical practice sessions. As the practical sessions are conducted subsequent to the relevant theory components, the students have the opportunity to build their skills upon the knowledge gained. 

The Bachelor degrees offered by the FAHS are in conformity with the recommendations of University Grants Commission (UGC) in conformity with Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) covering minimum 120 credits in course work delivered over 4 years.

Academic Hours

Consists of 59 course modules with total of 120 credits
One credit equals:

  • 15 hours of lectures. 
  • 15 hours of tutorials/SGD/Clinical Based Discussions.
  • 30 hours of practical skill training.
  • 45 hours of clinical practical/In service training
  • For the research project, 100 hours is equivalent to one credit. 
Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements:  

The candidate must have, Completed GCE (A/L) or Cambridge/ Edexcel (A/L) or an equivalent foreign examination in the relevant or immediately preceding year and be qualified for university admission.

  • GCE Advanced Level (local):
    A minimum of three Simple Passes (S) at the GCE (A/L) examination in Biological or Physical Science Stream in one sitting to enroll in BSc Honours in Physiotherapy degree programme.
  • IGCSE / GCSE (Cambridge) or Advanced Level (Edexcel):
    At least three ‘D’ passes at the Cambridge or Edexcel (A/L) or an equivalent foreign examination in Biological or Physical Science Stream in one sitting to enroll in BSc Honours in Physiotherapy degree programme
