Our approach to the Sustainable Development Goals

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University is committed to reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on an annual basis and embedding the SDGs in everything that we do, from our curriculum and research to wider activities at the university. This is illustrated by our web pages dedicated to the UN’s SDGs. While being recognised as the leader in Sri Lanka for quality education, gender equality, and reducing inequalities, KDU is in the world's top 1000 universities across all of the UN's SDGs. Furthermore, we are proud to announce that the university has also significantly contributed significantly towards advancements in five additional SDGs, including outstanding accomplishments in areas of Life Below Water and Life on Land. The institution's rich record of service aligns nicely with the agenda of SDGs. Embedding the SDGs within the educational programs cultivated more informed citizens, able to contribute proactively towards each goal. The university's researchers and academics are actively engaged in formulating solutions related to health and well-being, affordable clean energy, and decent work and economic growth.
