Leadership Skill Development Training Programme of Intake 39 Day-Scholars
General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University conducted five Leadership Skill Development Training Programmes of two weeks for the Day-Scholars of Intake 39. These programmes were aimed at developing leadership qualities, teamwork and positive thinking through theoretical and practical training as advised by Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil (Ind), the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. Accordingly, 1312 Day-Scholars of Intake 39 from various faculties including FOM, FOE, FMSH, FOT, FOL, FOC, and FAHS completed the training on 8 October 2022. In his opening remarks at the commencement of each programme, Brigadier Wipula Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence and Administration), highlighted the importance of leadership and positive thinking for the future leaders of the nation.
Colonel RKARP Ratnayake RSP USP, Dean of FDSS, supervised all the Leadership Skill Development Programmes during its conduct. The Squadron Commander and Troop Commanders of Intake 39 together with the Sports Officer of the University, conducted all the outdoor training activities such as wall climbing, rappelling, ariel rope, eight different types of leadership group activities, and five different types of teams building activities. In addition, lectures including leadership, discipline, loyalty, counseling, gender equity & equality, time management and sexually transmitted diseases were conducted by experienced lecturers from relevant fields. Further, All students were attended for environment protection activities cleaning various places around university. Furthermore, there was a comprehensive talent show at the end of each leadership programme with awarding of certificates for Day-Scholars who successfully completed the leadership skill development programme.
